CRA/NRT Clinical Study Update

The Oregon Board of Chiropractic has authorized Contact Reflex Analysis and a broad range of other muscle strength response testing for primary diagnostic and treatment of patients. Based on this authorization, I have decided to conduct a series of clinical studies to see what kind of responses I receive with subjects that are not in the patient category.

I stopped treating patients in 1997 after returning to Oregon from New York. I came back to my home state to spend time with my sons who were still teenagers at the time and to fully implement my new company for the research and development of natural products and technologies. I discussed this shift in emphasis with Dave McTeague (Executive Director, Oregon Board of Chiropractic Examiners) and other staff members over the years to make sure they knew about my company in Oregon and that I was maintaining my licensing as a Chiropractor even though I wasn’t actively treating patients.

I have decided to work with five subjects at a time to test the use of both Nutritional Response Testing (NRT) and Contact Reflex Analysis (CRA). Nutritional Response Testing is taught by Standard Process to Chiropractors, Naturopaths and other type of healthcare practitioners, licensed or unlicensed. Contact Reflex Analysis was previously used by Standard Process as the testing method to determine which of their supplements to provide patients.

Standard Process manufactures a broad range of natural supplements, but many of them contain raw gland and organ extracts that come from cows and pigs. The theory behind the use of raw gland and organ extracts from animals goes back to ancient cultures whereby the energy of the gland and organ would become transferred to a person, such as raw heart to strengthen the heart or brain to strengthen the brain.

I have never used raw gland and organ extracts for the treatment of patients while in active practice. While practicing in New York City I started using my immune system products and also recommending basic products available at a health food store. Quite honestly, my opinion about raw gland and organ extracts is that I am not sure if they accomplish anything meaningful in terms of health and healing benefits.

Another factor associated with CRA and NRT is that the Oregon Board of Chiropractic considers them as primary for diagnosis and treatment, which means that through these muscle testing methods a Chiropractor is able to establish a very specific diagnosis of disease and to provide treatment and cure for disease with Standard Process and any other product that tests out as meaningful with CRA and NRT.

Some questions do arise for me in terms of the legality of associating disease claims with natural supplements that are used for treatment of disease through the application of CRA and NRT. The OBCE has discussed these techniques at great length, as well as with feedback from their Peer Review Committee. It is well known that both techniques are used to diagnose disease as a replacement for standard medical diagnosis.

One phase of my studies will be to look into the disease diagnosis category from applying CRA and NRT. I will do this through cooperation with doctors in active practice and hopefully with one of the Chiropractic Colleges in the United States. I will approach Western States Chiropractic University about working with me on the use of muscle testing to establish a primary diagnosis of disease, but it is clear from the minutes available from the OBCE that staff at Western States Chiropractic University are not positive in terms how they view the use of CRA and other muscle testing as primary diagnostic tools.

With my first set of subjects I used NRT, as taught by Standard Process, to establish which organs are weak and then connect this information with what is known by the subject’s other medical diagnostics. Based on establishing which organs and/or glands are the weakest, I then tested each subject with twenty seven products and/or technologies to determine which of my products caused a reversal of a weak muscle strength response.

The muscle strength testing is done by gently pushing down on the subject’s straight arm to establish a baseline. By touching each organ and/or gland area of the body, as taught by Standard Process, I was able to determine which organs and glands elicited the greatest weakness with the straight arm push. After determining the weakest organs and/or glands (usually one for each subject, but in one case I found an organ and a gland as the weakest), I then used the straight arm push to determine which of my twenty seven products created the highest level of strengthening.

The results from this study will be published on my website by the end of this week. I conducted this study with subjects, not with patients. I gave no advice to any of the subjects about the health issues, but instead simply recorded the responses from the muscle strength testing.

Future testing will include using Contact Reflex Analysis to determine a specific disease, instead of the general approach that is used in Nutritional Response Testing to find the weakest glands and organs. This will allow me to use CRA to test for which of my 27 natural supplements might indicate treatment of specific diseases.

As I suspected, the MPS GOLD 100 product came up very strong for a number of subjects. However, the product that showed the strongest response in all five subjects was pH Revitalizer. No matter what the organ or gland, pH Revitalizer and MPS GOLD 100 caused a strengthening response when doing the straight arm test.
